POSITION DESCRIPTION:The Cloud IS Operations Specialist will work with our Cloud Library development organization on defining and deploying our next generation of e-book lending application services for our customers and partners around the world. This position will be responsible for managing the support and maintenance of our externally hosted e-books solution, which involves liaising with staff in the US, UK and India offices on a daily basis to ensure a resilient and secure environment.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIES

US Operations (50%)

  • Design, implement and maintain production and development environments and test networks that are responsive to changing needs.
  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
  • Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
  • Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.
  • Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary.
  • Create, change, and delete user accounts per request.
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies.

Database and Server Infrastructure Backups and Update Management (25%)

  • Enforce data retention, optimize space usage, and maximize performance. Monitor and manage notifications, alerts, and overall system health.
  • Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure/add new services as necessary.
  • Upgrade and configure system software per project or operational needs.
  • Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures.
  • Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.
  • Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment.

General IS Tasks and Administration (25%)

  • Implement and enforce IS security policies, development of system certification documentation by preparing and submitting for review and approval of the documentation, responding to security incidents, and ensuring that data ownership and responsibilities are established for each IS, including accountability, access rights, and special handling requirements.
  • Lead the effort to set-up, configure, and load system software and hardware. Provide support for web development, testing, system integration, installation scripts and other duties to support systems and network infrastructure.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years’ experience in a Global IT Organization
  • A strong IT infrastructure/technical support background

Computer/Technical Skills:

  • 3-5 years’ experience with monitoring, troubleshooting and resolving Enterprise Application issues
  • Working knowledge of virtualization and off-premise Cloud Hosted solutions (e.g. Azure, AWS)
  • Fundamental understanding of network topologies, protocols and components (e.g. Firewalls, Proxy Servers, SFTP, SSH, SSL, Load Balancing, etc.
  • Experience identifying system security requirements, threats and mitigating security risk
  • Familiarity with state of the art application and server monitoring tools (e.g. New Relic)
  • Ability to define and document SOPs for deployment and maintenance tasks
  • Experience delivering code/application releases to multiple enterprise environments (Dev, QA, Stage and Production)
  • Hands-on experience with Linux and Windows Operating Systems to include: Linux (RedHat or Centos); Windows Server; Oracle; SQL Server
  • Deep understanding of Database tools and technologies
  • Diagnostics, Statistics, Query Analysis, Tuning, Stored Procedures, Query Plans, Indexes
  • Must be proficient in Excel, Word, Outlook and Power Point.

Required Skills

  • Deep understanding of backup and disaster recovery strategies
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize appropriately with limited direction
  • Knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle and Agile Methodologies.
  • Experience working with a multi-site operations team
  • Experience with Issue and Task tracking tools such as Jira or TFS
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic. Demonstrates a highly committed attitude.
  • Methodical and accurate, with a very good attention to detail.
